Harry had sold the Grand Hotel and bought a much more prestigious hotel, The Coaching Inn in Edgbaston. Doreen had moved to Spain and out of Ken’s life. Ken set up a motorcycle courier firm, Texas Rangers, operating out of the stables at The Coaching Inn and lived in the flat above the office; the noise of the motorbikes was a constant source of annoyance to Harry. Ken persuaded Debbie Yates, who was working for Harry as a chambermaid, to come and work for Texas Rangers, looking after the two-way radio and taking bookings. Rocky Cassidy, who was rarely seen without his leather jacket on which “Rocky” was written in metal studs, was working for a rival firm that was trying to put Ken out of business. However when that firm brought in a group of Hells Angels to ‘persuade’ Ken, it was Rocky who saved him, so Ken offered him a job working for Texas Rangers. Margaret Daly was a police sergeant with the Vice Squad; Ken met her in “A Ride On The Wild Side” and soon fell in love with her.
In the final episode, “A Once Fluid Man”, Harry had decided to sell The Coaching Inn, which caused great problems for Ken since Texas Rangers would lose its office. An old friend from the fire brigade, a schizophrenic who had just been released from a mental hospital, resented Ken’s and Harry’s success. After holding them hostage in a hotel bedroom, he shot Ken. As Margaret rushed into the hotel, Harry yelled “Ken’s been shot. I think he’s dead.”

Series 2 and 3 were made entirely on 16 mm film and were shot on location.
According to the closing credits of “A Once Fluid Man”, The Coaching Inn was really Berrow Court Hotel, Westfield Road, Edgbaston.
For some reason, Series 2 was shown in two halves: Episodes 1-7 in February-March 1987 and Episodes 8-13 in October-December 1987. Some Boon sites regard these as two separate series.
